Great Sand Dunes + Zapata Falls Tour

Service Description

This 5.5 hour tour combines the two most popular attractions in the San Luis Valley; the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Zapata Falls. Your expert guide will meet you at the Great Sand Dunes Visitor's Center parking lot where you'll load up into a custom off-road vehicle built to take on the most rugged terrain. Your guide will drive you through deep sand at the base of the Dune field before beginning to climb up the rough and rocky Medano Creek Primitive Road; aptly named as many water crossings, rocks, deep holes and tight squeezes lay before you. Your guide will navigate you through aspen groves and Medano Creek while telling you all there is to know about the surrounding mountains, history of the area, early pioneers, and of course the Great Sand Dunes. After you've taken in all that the Great Sand Dunes National Park has to offer your guide will take you a few miles outside the park and embark upon Zapata Falls road. You'll wind back and forth along the base of the Sangre De Christo mountains with beautiful views of the San Luis Valley below. Once the road ends you will take to the Zapata Falls trail on foot; hiking a half mile to where water gushes out of a crevice in the rocky walls above you. Water, comfortable clothing and athletic shoes are encouraged as hiking and walking through Zapata's icy water is required. This is not a Sunday morning cruise. This is Colorado off-roading with an educational guide! **Please be aware that accessing the falls requires hiking up a rocky riverbed with moving water. When water is high the falls may not be visible due to unsafe conditions. Weather can also affect safe access to the falls. Seeing the falls is not guaranteed. Each individual is liable for their own health and safety should they decide to hike to the falls.

Cancellation Policy

To cancel or reschedule please contact us at least 7 days in advance and you will receive a full refund minus the service fee (3%). Inside 7 days of your scheduled tour we cannot offer a full refund, as visits to the park are often planned in advance and it is unlikely we can fill your reservation in such a short amount of time. Should we fill your reservation, a refund will be granted. Thank you for understanding.
